Y11 MPA ATAR Written 1

For your first written response you will have 50 minutes to write an essay.  You will have a choice of three questions, and you will answer one of them.  The film we will analyse for this assessment task, is 10 Things I Hate About You.

Questions will relate to the following:

• How mainstream audience values inform feature film. 

• Stereotypes and the effects of using stereotypes in feature film. 

• The factors that affect feature films produced in a large-scale institution. 

• The influence of globalisation on feature films and trends in media use, genres and/or styles. 

• The effect of controls and constraints on production. 

• The narrative structure, narrative element, codes and conventions, meaning and theme of the film. 

• How meaning is encoded by the producer of the teacher selected feature film and decoded by audiences. 

One of the questions will be about mainstream audience values and how these values have informed or shaped a film’s content.

Another question will ask you how meaning is encoded by the producer of the film and decoded by audiences.

A third question will ask you to write about a film’s theme and evaluate how effectively the theme has been constructed.
